Job Description
After School Care Assistant
Covie's Vision and Mission establishes a strong foundation for students in providing a high quality education with a Christ-centred worldview in everything we do. We take pride in our range of student activities which complement and enhance student educational service as we continue to assist parents in the nurture of their children.
To facilitate the delivery of a quality After School Care program for our students aged 3-9 years, and under the supervision of our After School Care Coordinator, the school has employment opportunities for Covie students (who have reached 17 years old and in Year 11 or Year 12) to facilitate the delivery of a quality after school care program and to ensure the safety of all children within the program.
These casual opportunities will be scheduled for student flexibility, so as to not disrupt student homework/study (which must take priority). Individual engagements will be of 2-3 hours duration directly after school from 3pm, with the school providing After School Care services each week Monday through Friday, across the 38 school weeks.
In addition to offering students paid employment, these opportunities offer excellent experience to students who may also wish to progress into a Childcare or Education career.
Key Responsibilities & Requirements
• Display a mature work ethic with ability to follow the instruction from the After School Care
Coordinator
• Engage in activities for Prep students or K-Year 4 students, as appropriate. (There are two Care
Assistants on duty on each occasion)
• Work with students individually and in small groups whilst facilitating play, homework and
activities that are fun and engaging
• Assist students with the opportunity to develop personal, social and independent learning skills
• Ensure that the environment is safe and secure for all children, and provide constant supervision
• Maintain a clean and organised environment
• Care for the health and wellbeing of all children in the class, including supervising students while
they are eating
• Oversee the collection of students by their parents and carers. Keep records of attendance
including sign in and out sheets and maintain the confidentiality of any personal information
• Advise Coordinator immediately on any matters of concern and report any incident or accident
• Identify as a committed Christian of a reformed evangelical persuasion active in their faith
• Demonstrate sound communication skills and competent level of literacy and numeracy
• Hold a Working with Children Check (or a willingness to obtain) if aged over 18 years
