Covenant Christian School is a distinctly and explicitly Christian Prep to Year 12 co-educational day school with over 900 students, located in Belrose on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

 Working in partnership with parents, our passionate and highly qualified teaching staff deliver the curriculum from the understanding that all of life must be centred on God and his plan to restore all things under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

ROLE STATEMENT

Covenant Christian School partners with parents in the education of their children by providing opportunities and programs (both curricular and co-curricular) to suit a range of student abilities and interests.  The after-school Co-Curricular program assists students in small groups with syllabus and learning support as well as special interest opportunities.

In seeking to understand the school’s Vision for Christian Education, the Academic Tutor should develop strategies that aid implementation of the Vision, and strive for a consistent collective expectation amongst students and teachers.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

• Committed Christian of a reformed evangelical persuasion actively involved in the life of their local church.
• A strong academic record of achievement in their subject area
• Able and willing to sincerely affirm the School’s Statement of Belief
• Sound understanding of their tutoring subject
• Good relationship and communication skills, with an ability to adapt instruction to the learning needs of different students; the ability to liaise with staff
• Available after school 3 - 5 pm, flexible across Monday – Thursday
• Responsible and professional
• Current Working with Children Check (Employee)

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS

• Competent in the use of technology as it relates to the education programs, particularly Canvas and Edumate.
• Experience tutoring secondary students, with a particular emphasis on the ability to engage with enthusiasm and energy
• Awareness of WHS practice and procedures

• Ability to model Christian understanding through empathy, compassion, humility, grace and integrity.

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITY

As a member of a small team of Co-Curricular staff, the Academic Tutor is responsible:

•  to ensure they work cohesively with others, including Learning Hub staff
•  to be subject to relevant Coordinators in line with the organizational structure of the school
• to provide an effective climate for promoting learning amongst students of all abilities
• to promote collaborative relationships between teachers, students and parents
•  to value students for who they are rather than what they can do
• provide an effective climate of learning that fosters academic achievement
• develop appropriate strategies that aid implement of the School’s vision for Christian education
• from time to time conduct other duties as may be required by the Director of Co-Curricular.
• have a genuine care and interest in each pupil’s welfare
• ensure the study areas are safe and kept tidy
• report any concerns regarding the wellbeing of students to other Learning Hub staff or to the Director of Co-Curricular.

WORK HEALTH AND SAFETY

All staff have a responsibility to take reasonable care for their own safety and that of everyone else at school or involved in school activities.  They must comply with reasonable safety instructions, policies and procedures, including by providing care to students within the scope of their role.  Staff will also participate in school safety, such as by addressing hazards and reporting safety incidents.
